Workplace Ministry Chaplains News
GROWING INTEREST IN CHAPLAINCY
There is growing interest in chaplaincy in all kinds of retail outlets.
In Harpenden a local minister has seen the need and is exploring the development of chaplaincy. In Luton, interest has also been shown, and Hemel Hempstead churches are developing a town centre ministry to include retail stores.

Dennis van der Meijden
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Dennis van der Meijden, Chaplain at Welwyn Garden City, and also Chaplain in the Herts Police and Fire Services. Dennis had served the Ambulance Service in Hertfordshire for ten years and was a much appreciated and respected chaplain. He will be greatly missed. Our sympathies go out to his family and friends, his parish of Lemsford, where he was Reader, and to all those in the Emergency Services who have known Dennis and had reason to be grateful for his ministry. |
Lionel Albon
After many years service as Chaplain in the Bedfordshire Ambulance and Fire Services, Lionel has finally retired (for the third and final time!). He was presented a special award at the last Beds Fire Service Awards Ceremony, as a token of the affection and respect in which Lionel was held. He and his wife were both able to attend the occasion, at which WMHB was represented by its Team Leader, Randell Moll. |
Sue Pankhurst takes a ride!
Sue, Watford Chaplain, recently took her first ride-out in an operational ambulance on a routine day at work. All WMHB chaplains pride themselves in serving “at the coal face” where the real work is done, so Sue was able to observe the crews at work at close quarters, and to talk through events with them as the day proceeded. |
